Video Testimonials

"Green Home was prompt, personable, and professional. They spent several hours gathering information from me, from the blower door test and the thermal imaging camera. I received an 8 pg report with photos of problem areas, suggestions for savings, estimated cost and return on investment (in terms of time and cost). I was also provided a unit to test for indoor air quality and, after 4 days of testing, given a detailed report about VOCs, carbon dioxide and particulates in my home along with remedies. Knowing that the employees are HERS raters and BPI certified was reassuring especially since Green Home's price was the lowest of the three quotes given."

An Energy Audit could put money back in your pocket, where it belongs.

Energy Audits are performed on houses to determine their overall energy efficiency. The audit will address your house as a system and will inform you of ways to improve the way your home uses energy. Your auditor can then recommend upgrades and repairs that can be made to your home to lower your energy usage and your monthly bills.

Professional Home Energy Audits

Professional energy audits generally go into great detail. Green Home energy auditors do a room-by-room examination of the residence, as well as a thorough examination of past utility bills.

Our professional energy audits will include a blower door test and will also include a thermographic scan.

Preparing for an Energy Audit

Before the energy auditor visits your house, make a list of any existing problems such as condensation and uncomfortable or drafty rooms. Have copies or a summary of the home's yearly energy bills. (Your utility can get these for you.) A Green Home Energy Audit uses this information to establish what to look for during the audit. The auditor first examines the outside of the home to determine the size of the house and its features (i.e., wall area, number and size of windows). The auditor then will analyze the residents' behavior:

* Is anyone home during working hours?
* What is the average thermostat setting for summer and winter?
* How many people live here?
* Is every room in use?

Your answers may help uncover some simple ways to reduce your household's energy consumption. Walk through your home with the auditors as they work, and ask questions. They may use equipment to detect sources of energy loss, such as blower doors, infrared cameras, furnace efficiency meters, and surface thermometers.

Learn what it takes to create a comfortable building environment with less reliance on fossil fuels (and lower energy bills).

April 16, 2008

Being passive isn’t always a bad thing, especially when it’s passive solar heating and cooling. The idea behind passive solar is to design buildings that take advantage of natural heat from the sun in winter; and shade and wind and in the summer. Although the concept has been used in many cultures for centuries, passive solar design p… Continue
